Professor Bernard Omolo is the Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Training and Certifications and is currently a tenured professor at the University of South Carolina Upstate. He has served in the Division of Mathematics & Computer Science at the University of South Carolina Upstate since 2004. With a Ph.D. in Mathematical Statistics from Texas Tech University and an M.P.H. from the University of North Carolina–Chapel Hill, he uniquely bridges advanced statistical theory with real-world applications in public health and genetics Professor Omolo’s faculty roles span decades—rising from Assistant to Associate, and now full Professor—and include leadership during 2017–2020 as Division Chair. His international impact is notable through visiting appointments at institutions such as Strathmore University in Kenya, Wits University in South Africa, and the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics.
His research centers on statistical genomics, Bayesian methods, cancer, and global public health—particularly the development of advanced statistical models for multi-omic integration in cancer studies. Professor Omolo’s work has earned support from major funders, including the NIH, the Burroughs Wellcome Fund, the Simons Foundation, and other regional grants.
